When your car needs service, you must know if your Lexus car warranty will cover the cost. What’s a basic warranty, powertrain warranty, or hybrid warranty? We’ll explain those terms and show you how simple your Lexus warranty is.

What Does the Basic Warranty Cover?

Your basic warranty is for 50,000 miles or 48 months—whichever occurs first. For wheel alignment and balancing, you’re covered for 12,000 miles or 12 months, whichever occurs first. This covers the parts of the car that aren’t part of the powertrain.

The basic warranty covers defects and repairs on your Lexus.

Common Reasons the Basic Warranty Won’t Cover a Repair

The warranty won’t cover your car if you’ve tampered with the odometer. If the warranty covered such cases, anyone could just roll back their odometer to keep the warranty in effect.

Another reason the warranty won’t cover repairs is if you’ve not maintained your car as required by the Warranty and Services Guide. For example, if you don’t change the oil as often as required, and this destroys your engine as a result, the warranty won’t cover it.

What Are Reasons Lexus Warranty Won’t Cover a Repair?

Other reasons the warranty won’t cover a repair include:

  • The vehicle has a salvage title
  • You’ve damaged the vehicle by racing it
  • Insurance covers damage due to fire, theft, or accidents; not warranties
  • Tires – They’re covered by a separate warranty from the tire manufacturer

For more information on what’s not covered by the basic warranty, consult DARCARS Lexus of Greenwich. Or, you can see a more comprehensive list on the warranty page of the Lexus website.

What’s the Lexus Powertrain Warranty?

The powertrain covers the engine, transmission, transaxle, and drive systems. It’s 70,000 miles or 72-month warranty, whichever comes first. Some of the specific parts covered by the powertrain warranty include:

  • Cylinder block
  • Oil pump
  • Water pump
  • Fuel pump
  • Timing belt
  • Engine control computer
  • Driveshaft
  • Axle

Any of the reasons that the basic warranty won’t cover repairs also will cause the powertrain warranty not to cover repairs.

The Hybrid Warranty

Your Lexus dealer in Greenwich, CT has 7 different hybrid models for 2022. The electrical parts necessary for the hybrid system offer lower maintenance than other engine parts. For this reason, Lexus offers a longer warranty.

The hybrid warranty is for 100,000 miles or 8 years, whichever comes first. The warranty covers:

  • Hybrid battery control module
  • Hybrid control module
  • Inverter with converter

For models 2020 and newer, the warranty covers hybrid batteries 150,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first.

Other Warranties

Your Lexus warranties also include a corrosion perforation warranty and a parts warranty. The corrosion perforation warranty protects you from holes caused by rust. This warranty is for 72 months, regardless of mileage.

The parts warranty covers 12 months from the date the part is installed—regardless of mileage—or the rest of the basic warranty, whichever is longer. The parts warranty does not cover batteries.
