The Easy Way to Open Your Door
Entering a Lexus couldn’t be easier thanks to an E-Latch feature that allows doors to open in a single step. Unlike a traditional door handle, an E-Latch door is opened with a gentle touch of an electronic sensor. Exiting the vehicle works similarly. The doors can be opened from within after pressing a button on the inside of the door.
While E-Latch doesn’t automatically cause the doors to open or close, it does simplify the use of car doors and provide a smoother and quieter experience than the handle-pull alternative. Simply gripping the handle with a key in hand is enough to unlock the door. With a slight pull, the door opens.
It’s Safely Backed by Mechanical Operation
Since the latching system is electronic, it gets power from the car itself. That means it won’t operate in the event of a car battery or key fob that loses battery. In this case, the doors can be released mechanically via a latch on the inside door.
